Edit ChatGPT Markdown like a Word document.
ChatGPT replies look perfect in the chat, then paste into Word as a wall of **asterisks**, ### headings and broken tables. MDX takes that same Markdown — whether you copy it from the chat or download the .md from Canvas — and shows it as a formatted document you edit by clicking. Save back as plain .md, or export to Word and PDF.

Paste — don't reformat
Copy a ChatGPT answer and paste it straight in. Headings, bold, tables, lists and code blocks render instantly — no raw ** or |---| to clean up by hand.
Math survives the trip
ChatGPT writes equations as \( … \), \[ … \], or $$ … $$. MDX normalises all of them on paste and shows real, editable math (MathLive) instead of leaving LaTeX source sitting in your text.
Export to what you actually need
Turn the answer into a Word .docx, a PDF, or clean HTML — formatting intact — while the source on disk stays plain .md.
From ChatGPT to an editable document in 3 steps

.mdfrom Canvas, double-click it (MDX can be set as the default.mdopener). - Edit and export. Click to format, fix the wording, then save as

ChatGPT Markdown — questions
How do I get a Markdown file out of ChatGPT?
The regular chat doesn't save files — copy the answer and paste it into MDX. ChatGPT Canvas can download a .md file (the download icon, top-right), which you then open in MDX. You can set MDX as the default app for .md files so a double-click just works. See the full guide at /open-md-file.
Why does ChatGPT Markdown look broken when I paste it into Word?
Word pastes the raw Markdown source — the **, #, and pipe-table characters ChatGPT uses for formatting. MDX interprets that Markdown and shows the formatted document, then exports a clean .docx for Word.
Can I edit ChatGPT tables and code blocks without touching syntax?
Yes. Tables are edited in a real grid with no pipe characters, and code blocks stay syntax-highlighted. You never edit raw Markdown source.
Do I need a ChatGPT Plus or MDX account?
No. MDX has no account and no telemetry; files stay on your disk as plain .md. It is $15 one-time with a 14-day free trial, no card required.
